Different paramotors are designed to suit the pilot’s needs. Think about your current ability using the following guide for help.

STUDENT/BEGINNER: It’s your first time on the training field or you’re newly qualified and have just completed a few solo flights without the support of an instructor.

EXPERIENCED: You have a considerable amount of airtime under your belt. You fly with confidence and are looking for new adventures and challenges.

INSTRUCTOR: You’re qualified and operate or regularly coach at a paramotor training school. You’re looking for a paramotor especially for first time and progressing pilots.

1) WHAT LEVEL OF PILOT ARE YOU?

It is crucial for your safety and overall enjoyment of your flying to choose a paramotor that has the right amount of power. Your  body size and stature heavily influences the choice of engine and how much power you are going to require.

If your paramotor has insufficient power, your take-off running is going to be harder and longer, increasing your chances of injury. Once airborne you may not have an adequate climb rate to safely avoid obstacles.

Although more power and thrust makes launching easier, larger engines are heavier and can be unwieldy. They may also use more fuel so your range will be less, and the amount of fuel you’ll need will increase, adding additional weight.

An important question, although for a beginner sometimes harder to answer. Your flying will never get boring. After some airtime you’ll naturally seek to progress. Don’t just think about your current flying style, think on your goals in paramotoring for the future.

4) What is your flying style?

The adventurous spirit lurks in all of us and we all dream of the eutopia – travelling the globe and experiencing amazing places that we could only dream of flying. Practicality dictates the need for a paramotor that compacts down to a managable size. However, more parts means longer assembly and more complexity. Let alone the long drawn out process of prepping your engine to get it on a plane.

We may all set out with great intentions and aspirations, but be realistic about how often you are truely going to travel or take your paramotor on a plane.

5) Do you plan to travel OVERSEAS a lot with your paramotor?

The paramotor community is split over this.  With the advent of the ‘flash start’, pull starting a paramotor has never been easier for the majority of pilots. Some still prefer the convenience of simply being able to push a button to get their paramotor started. It’s worth noting that an electric starter is going to add about 1.5-2kg to your overall paramotor weight.

6) Is electric start essential?
